An update from Major Players - 1st July 2020

Back to Blogs

Before I update you on the market and changes being made at Major Players, I would to take this opportunity to express my continued support and unity with the Black Lives Matter movement. While many social feeds have gone back to normal, we are working hard on how we can be a conduit for positive change and this starts with education.

Over the last few weeks we have provided our employees with a variety of resources, created affinity groups to drive conversation and will shortly be welcoming the incredible Joanna Abeyie, to run an online session called “Let’s Talk About Race”. As a business leader I am committed to educating myself and those around me to ensure we understand our privilege and become strong allies.

In the same vain, I would also like to take this opportunity to honour pride month just gone. Although this year’s celebrations have been different, it’s still extremely important that we continue to push for change to build a more equitable, inclusive future for all.

This upcoming weekend see’s the re-opening of restaurants, bars and non-essential businesses in a bid to get the economy moving, and we have started to feel this within the job’s market. Freelancers continue to be in demand, particularly with a focus upon digital, tech, e-commerce, social and data roles; and although permanent recruitment was badly affected due to lockdown, we are starting to see an increase in briefs coming through.

What is also encouraging is that 35% of brands and agencies are still hiring or using freelancers and 55% are planning to hire in the coming months. Despite the economic uncertainty, top talent will always be critical to the success of a business and our teams have been talking to some incredible candidates during the past few weeks that are looking to make their next move.

At Major Players, we have spent the last couple of months working on ways to adapt to a more flexible working approach while continuing to improve our solutions through greater tech innovation. This new dawn of working will continue to challenge us, but it will also afford us more opportunities than ever before – particularly for those that are seeking remote opportunities outside of London, which our Business Manager, Joe Faulkner discussed over on our blog.

Our much anticipated salary survey will be published early next week, but in the meantime we have just released a Candidate Market update where we surveyed almost 700 employees across the creative industries to assess the impact Covid-19 has had on their jobs and salaries. You can find the snapshot report here.

In other news, we have officially opened our new exciting office on Stukeley Street and started welcoming our employees back two days a week for those that felt comfortable to do so and that can walk/cycle. At current government guidelines we have space to fit up to 50% of staff comfortably and are continuing to assess how we work post-lockdown.

We are also in the final stages of a rebrand, with a much needed new identity that reflects the solutions we now offer and firmly re-positions us within the market. We are hoping to launch this within the coming weeks across all of our platforms; we hope you’ll like it!

The next few months will continue to challenge us, but as the country get’s back to relative normality, we anticipate the job market will pick up too. So, whether you’re looking for your next role, or your adding to your workforce, then we’d be more than happy to chat through your needs.

In the meantime, we hope that you, your staff and your family and friends are keeping safe and doing well.
