An update from Major Players

Back to Blogs

Whilst we’ve entered 2021 with a renewed sense of hope and optimism, from a leadership perspective, the last year has been one of the most challenging. Major Players, like many businesses had to make difficult decisions with limited information quickly, some of which have proved correct, and other’s which we might have done differently if given the chance. However, it also afforded us the opportunity to think hard about the type of business we want to build for our employees, candidates and clients; whilst also adapting to their needs.

The back-end of last year was our most successful period of 2020 with permanent and freelance hiring at a year high, and this is being carried in to 2021. From the conversations we have been having recently, businesses, particularly those in the digital space, are continuing to adapt and are treating the year ahead as an opportunity to grow sustainably through hiring diverse talent.

As a gatekeeper to exceptional diverse talent, we have a big responsibility to ensure that we positively impact the diversity, equity and inclusivity of the creative industries we work within. Over the last 10 months, along with our internal affinity groups, we have meticulously scrutinised our support mechanisms to ensure they are fit for purpose. All of this work has culminated in our Diversity, Equity & Inclusivity Statement which is being published this week, outlining measures we have improved and are putting in place to ensure we continue to support our clients in building a more equitable, inclusive future for all.

We have recently launched our annual Salary Survey and this year we are collecting more in-depth data to be able to understand the impact Covid-19 has had on the industry as a whole, but also on particular demographics. The survey only takes a few minutes and I encourage you to take part to help us produce the creative industries most in-depth census around careers, salaries and workplace trends.

In my last update, I referred to businesses needing to support and guide their employees through the challenges that lie ahead. We have continued to develop our Major Support portal, providing a range of useful resources for those experiencing redundancy or those that are job seeking. This is open to businesses and individuals, if you’d like access to this then please email support@majorplayers.co.uk.

A big part of our development plans for this year is helping our employees grow and flourish, helping them get the most from life. As such, we have set ourselves a goal for 2021 to ‘establish a collaborative and engaging environment that encourages free thinking and personal growth, whilst creating a high-achieving and inclusive culture that we can be proud of’.

As always, if there is anything we can do to support you over the coming months, we’d be more than happy to chat through your needs. We hope that you, your staff and your family and friends remain safe and well.
