Thursday 8th March marks International Women's Day, a time to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, raise awareness around women's quality and call to action the acceleration of gender parity.

This year, we're sharing all the events in the run-up, on and after International Women's Day.

Challenging Gender Stereotypes to Grow Generations of Equals

3 March - London, United Kingdom

IWD will be joined by a brilliant lineup of panellists, including Jess Day from Let Toys Be Toys, Kerrine Bryan, P.E. from Butterfly Books Limited, Han-Son Lee from DaddiLife, Natalie Costa from Positive Thoughts and Caren Gestetner from Lifting Limits

During the webinar, they will explore topics such as:

  • Is there an unconscious bias in the high street?

  • Can books, toys and clothes really influence our kids?

  • How are the roles of mums and dads perceived?

  • Are kids aware of the stereotypes around them?

  • How can we help parents and children tackle gender bias in early years?

Women and Work: International Women's Day

8 March, London, United Kingdom

The fifth edition of this hugely popular and successful long-running series "Women and Work: past and present". At each event attendees can expect to hear from activists, historians and professionals working today.

On this International Women's Day, you will hear from:

  • Feride Kumbasar, women's activist and P.h.D. candidate at the University of Roehampton, on her oral history interviews with Turkish and Kurdish women working at textile workshops in Hackney in between the 1980s. You’ll also hear letters read from Maternity, a 1915 publication that was one of the first to shed light on working-class mothers’ conditions.

  • Laura Sercombe the Chief Executive of Girls Friendly Society. Established in 1875 Girls Friendly Society (GFS) is one of the oldest registered charities working to support girls and young women in England and Wales

  • Stacy Makishi, a Hawaiian-born performance artist, teacher, director and mentor. She has been making art for over 30 years. It ranges across solo performances for stage, large-scale outdoor participatory projects and intimate one-to-ones.

  • Mary-Ann Stephenson has been active in the Women’s Budget Group for over twenty years, and was appointed as its first Director in 2017. Prior to this role, she was a freelance consultant specialising in women’s equality and human rights and has been Director of the Fawcett Society and a Commissioner on the Women’s National Commission.

Celebrating International Women’s Day: with Inspirational Women in Business

Iconic Offices Presents #BreaktheBias: The Working Parent Talk

International Women’s Day theme is #BreaktheBias, and in collaboration with Rise Up, Iconic Offices are bringing together two experts to discuss how we can #BreaktheBias against the working parent.

Working parents are incredibly valuable to any organisation. They tend to be great multi-taskers, have better time management skills and are more empathic. So, what can we do as co-workers and employers to make a difference? This panel will discuss the trails working parents can face, how we can identify and challenge bias head-on and tools which can be enlisted to support the working parents.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Energy UK and POWERful women have partnered to hold two free coaching sessions by Women To Work (9th and 10th March) for women in the energy industry to help unleash their potential.

The topic is Challenging Limiting Beliefs and Imposter Syndrome.

Women of the World Festival

11 – 13 March, Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, London

The main London event for International Women's Day each year, Women of the World is a three-day festival at Southbank Centre, celebrating women, girls and non-binary people all over the world and featuring discussions, performances and activists.

Topics range from sex to politics, grandmotherdom to divorce, childlessness to career changes, and Islamophobia. Speakers this year include Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors, novelist Marian Keyes, The Guilty Feminist host Deborah Frances-White, and political activist Angela Davis — though that's just a tiny glimpse of the impressive programme.
