On the 8th of February we launched Major Collective, a networking and benefit scheme for our freelancers. To celebrate the launch we had two Creative directors come in to give their best freelance advice from both a candidate and employer view. First was Gary Martin, a successful creative director and freelancer. He has worked for TK Maxx, Landor and accounts such as Barclaycard and Land Rover. Then we had Fred Boucher, a seasoned freelancer and has worked at Interbrand, TBWA, Siegel+Gale and Landor.
Freelancers make up 40% of the media workforce and in addition the UK’s creative industries grew by 8.9 per cent in 2016, nearly double that of the UK economy.
There’s more demand for freelancers than ever before especially with the advent of the gig economy, but are freelancers treated as well as they could be? We feel that more could be done to improve the working life of a freelancer and we want to show how much we value ours.
