Black History Month 2020: Black Icons

The contributions of Black icons have been fundamental across art, fashion, science, literature and has affected every part of society. Not only do Black icons provide immeasurable value to each of their chosen fields, they also provide representation for generations that are to follow. 

Over the last month we have uncovered unsung heroes in Black history, unveiling legends whose stories have greatly impacted our society and changed the course of history. As important as it is to point out these people, we must not forget to appreciate the talented icons in the limelight who continue to inspire us, using their influence to demand change.

Lupita puts it perfectly “Until I saw people who looked like me, doing the things I wanted to, I wasn’t so sure it was a possibility. Seeing Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah in The Color Purple, it dawned on me: ‘Oh – I could be an actress!’ We plant the seed of possibility.
