The Company!

Major Players is working with a new and exciting digital multimedia publisher dedicated to developing content for women, by women from Africa and the African diaspora. Working across a multimedia platform that develops and curates nuanced topics ranging from fashion, beauty, entertainment, politics, social issues, women's rights, and empowerment as well as arts and culture. With few platforms solely dedicated to capturing authentic stories from the continent, this start-up aims to fill the gap by adopting a digital-first, multidisciplinary and cross-cultural approach to content creation, storytelling, and editorial production, offering their audience purposeful and insightful stories that represent various African and Afro-diasporic women communities.


The Role!

Major Players are looking for a full time seasoned staff writer to join this exciting start-ups editorial team. You will work closely with the editor-in-chief, staff editors, reporters, and freelancers. As a staff writer, you should be able to perform thorough research and analysis on various topics and have a keen eye for detail. Ultimately, you should be able to deliver good quality content like news posts, interviews, and features.

An ideal candidate must have the following:

-A journalism, writing, communications, or relevant field university degree and/or at least 4-5 years of writing and reporting experience.
-Strong knowledge of and interest in African entertainment, art, issues, politics, music, and more on the continent and across the diaspora.
- Prior experience working as a staff writer is a must.
-Excellent writing skills
- Strong knowledge of AP Style Guidelines.
- Sharp research skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Comfortability working in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Ability to develop content across audio, video and experiential verticals.

Essential skills:

-Prior experience working as a staff writer is a must
-Strong knowledge of and interest in African entertainment, art, issues, politics, music, and more on the continent and across the diaspora.
- Ability to develop content across audio, video and experiential verticals
- Experience managing and producing shoots and productions
