digital jobs blog: Top 15 iPhone apps + market update
Return to index
By Borz Farahani, Major Players recruiter for
digital technical jobs
For my latest
digital jobs
blog, I thought I’d take a look at the more fun side of technology, so I decided to ask around the office for people’s favourite apps. Probably not the best idea I’ve ever had, as I received an onslaught of emails from people confessing their love for Angry Birds (see below) - and we’re not talking about the ones in Essex on a Friday night! Following are our favourite 15. You can find them all at
Apple's App Store
...
1. Angry Birds:
Self-explanatory. You shoot random birds at targets and then lose 4 hours of the day
2. Star Walk:
A brilliant Augmented Reality app that allows you to see star formations and planets
3. Red Laser:
Become a scan freak! Run around your home scanning random barcodes and crumble when the app finds the item for a cheaper price on the net
4. Sleep Cycle:
Struggling to wake up in the mornings? This app analyses your sleeping pattern and wakes you up when you’re not in a deep sleep
5. Beatbox:
Who doesn’t want to walk down the high street pretending to be Nemski!
6. Plants Vs. Zombies:
One of the best games on the iPhone - addictive, original and looks brilliant! A great twist on the traditional tower defence games
7. Fonejacker:
Now you can call your friends and ask them if they need cheaper internet providings!
8. Nearest Wiki:
Another Augmented Reality app that uses the iPhone camera to find you nearby points of interest
9. Spotify:
Still can’t believe Apple authorised this! And now with multi-tasking, it’ll probably make iTunes redundant
10. Flight Control:
Another one of those simple, yet addictive games that will have your battery running out in less than a day
11. SoundHound:
Like Shazam, but you can actually hum a tune and it will recognise it
12. EyeWitness:
iPad app which has some brilliant high res pictures from around the world
13. Vuvuzela:
As if listening to a horn for 90 mins during football games wasn’t enough, you can now annoy your work colleagues, family and random strangers
14. TuneIn Radio:
Uses 3G or Wifi to bring the radio onto your iPhone. It also has the ability to record
15. Voucher Cloud:
Vouchers on the go - what more do you need to know?
While we’re looking at ways to waste time, check out
this Flash game
that had our jaws on the floor.
Digital Jobs Market Update
Permanent recruitment is getting busier and currently there is a shortage of people to fill
Front End Developer jobs
and
Flash Developer jobs
. If that’s your area of expertise, drop me a line
here
, or call me on 020 7845 7218.
Freelance is still as busy as always so again, if you’re coming to the end of a contract or are simply sitting around playing apps between CV submissions, then get in touch!
