Freelance Media Manager Relations Manager - inhouse/clientside - £60k or day rate equiv - immediate start - Liverpool St - Public Sector/Financial Services

Our client is a widely respected trade/membership body who look after policy and financial services regulation in the UK - based in the heart of the City of London.

They are looking for a Freelance Media Relations Manager with a strong FS background to join their trade body organisation on a rolling basis whilst they recruit the role permanently. If you are keen on the role permanently too, you obviously put yourself in the driving seat for that position.

To:
* Develop proactive communications campaigns to promote the body and the banking industry in the media and with stakeholders. You will be principle lead in developing and executing landing stories in the media for them, be that re-actively or proactively, ensuring that they're regularly featured in the press in traditional banking outlets but with consumer and political journalists.
* To assist with all day to day media relations including: responding to press calls and drafting reactive lines, preparing press releases and press briefings for the CEO and senior policy colleagues
* Act as a spokesperson on all media outlets
* Coordinate broadcast media bids for the Chief Executive and Policy Directors
* Work with Policy Directors and the Director of Media Relations to identify positive proactive stories to be briefed to the media
* Maintain their long term strategic 'forward look' grid and coordinate media activity accordingly
* Provide an out of hours media service as part of a rota system
* Build and manage strong relationships with finance and banking, consumer and political journalists as well as key trade publications
* Develop and maintain a strong network of relationships with members in bank press teams across the membership (retail, wholesale and challenger banks) as well as press officers in key government departments, other financial services and business trade bodies and consumer groups
* Draft speeches for the CEO, draft articles for mainstream papers, blogs (working with policy directors) and other websites or trade press
* Monitoring news and breaking stories and flagging to relevant internal teams
* Assist in developing and expanding their social media offering

Qualifications/education required:
* Degree or equivalent

Required experience
* Proven substantial experience of working in a high pressure, fast moving, media relations team (6-8 years minimum)
* Proven substantial experience of generating proactive media stories of strong interest with the media

Required knowledge / skills
* Knowledge of:
o Drafting media plans, press releases and QnAs
o Media handling
o Crisis comms
o Broadcast, print, regional and trade news organisations
o Financial Services and business, consumer and trade media
o Devising and executing pro-active media coverage
o Social media

Desired experience (but not essential):
* Knowledge of EU 27 and wider international media
* Experience of having worked in a political environment
* Knowledge of banking
