Always be prepared
By preparation and planning we don’t mean writing your interview answers on the palm of your hand. We do mean:
Having a really good look at the company website (you’d be surprised at how many candidates don’t)
Learning more about who the company’s clients are and the work they do
Reading up in the trade press about recent developments
Finding out something about the people who will be interviewing you. Check them out on LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook to see if you have any mutual contacts
Asking your consultant all about your interviewers: what’s important to them, what they look for, what sorts of questions they normally ask
Deciding why you might want to work there, what you could do for them and why your skills match their needs
Working out what their dress code is and considering how you can fit in without stifling your own style – and remembering this is an interview. It’s like a pitch – everyone needs to look like they made an effort
OK, so that’s a start. Next, you could grab yourself a copy of ‘100 Best Answers to Tough Interview Questions’ or you could just run through some of our
sample questions
and practise in front of a mirror or with a friend. Remember - you don’t want to sound rehearsed but it’s a good idea to have a general idea of how you might answer.
