An insight into working within the digital technical sector

Making a career change or new to the industry? Neil Clements, Major Players Recruiter for Digital Technical Jobs offers an overview to the working within the industry, from salaries to career development opportunities, entry requirements and more..

Not got time for a video? Check out the main points below…

What are the salaries like?
“As a junior developer you’re looking at a starting salary of around £17k, moving on to senior level it could be anything up to £70k”.

What about the working environment?
“It can get busy if a project is due to go live and you’ll probably find yourself pulling out all the stops to get things done in time.”

Can it be stressful/rewarding?
“Again if you’re completing a project it can become stressful however if you’re working on a big integrated campaign involving TV, print, digital etc. it can be really rewarding to see it launched.”

Do you need a degree?
“If you’re wanting to establish yourself as a in a desktop support role then there are boot camp style courses available, check out UCLA too as they do lots of one off courses. It’s also worth trying to get yourself some work experience if you’re a grad, they don’t tend to promote it in colleges so many people come out unsure as the sector is so niche.”

What key skills and personality traits do you need?
“The basic technical skills have to be there but on top of that and probably the most important is a love of technology.”

How can I get more clued up on the sector?
“I recommend reading NMA, Campaign, Revolution and also joining the LinkedIn groups.”
