Are their opportunities to freelance? “Yes, however in the early stages of your career it’s not recommended as you should really try to establish yourself as a designer with one agency where you can learn from other designers. But it is a good way so get a bit of money in your pocket.”
Can it be stressful/rewarding? “When you’re going through a pitch it can be stressful but the pros certainly outweigh the cons, especially when you get to see your work go live, that can be really rewarding.”
Do you need a degree? “Most companies will ask for a BA Hons or the equivalent in a related subject - graphic design is a good one as its very broad. However, if you want to specialise then you can also do degrees in subjects such as branding, packaging , advertising – whatever your interest.”
What key skills and personality traits do you need? “Apart from being creative you need to be really organised and determined.”
