Get the most out of your PR portfolio

Having a PR portfolio is something that is becoming increasingly important in today's competitive market. Employers need to be sure that you can produce results, so a portfolio is the best way to prove this. So, here are some tips on how to get it right from  Katie Fisher, Major Players Recruiter for PR and Communications roles.

Get  organised
“This seems like a pretty obvious one but you’d be amazed by the number of messy portfolios we see. A good place to start is to organise your coverage by client, that way it gives your prospective employer a clear idea of how the campaign was executed for each client.”

Pull out key pieces
“Lay out all of your cuttings and pick out key pieces, ones that you are particularly proud of. Less is sometimes more so don’t throw in every scrap of coverage as this can make it look messy.”

Include press releases
"This is a really important one as it shows off your writing skills and also backs up your coverage."

Keep it broad
“It’s good to show that you have a good scope so include regional press as well or add in stories as opposed to just product placement.”

Make it snappy
“Much like a cv your portfolio doesn’t need to be pages and pages long, the reader is likely to get bored otherwise. So keep it short and snappy focusing on your key pieces.”
