With Becky Folb, Recruiter for Digital Marketing and Social Media Jobs Whether you're after a creative job, a design job or a role in account management, a brilliant CV is your first step to opening the right doors. With only 20 seconds to make a good impression, it's important to get it right! Not got time to watch a video? Check out the main points below! Go back to the main page. Creating a Killer CV Top 5 1. Craft a cracking profile: Avoid the waffle and get straight into it. 5 great bullet points that highlight your experience and achievements will go a long way to keeping the reader reading. 2. Get straight to the point: Tell the reader what you've been up to most recently. Rather than focusing on your responsibilities, show how you've added value and how you can transfer that across to a new role. Example: "In my last job as marketing manager, I increased website visits by 15%, translating to £125k extra revenue that year." 3. Check your speeling*: Sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how many CVs get thrown to the bottom of the pile for an errant "your" instead of "you're". Spell checkers only pick up so much. Proof it yourself, then give it to a friend. One that can spell. 4. Keep it short: 2 pages max! If you're struggling to fit in all your work experience, cut anything that's not relevant to the job you're after. Which leads to the next point... 5. One size does not fit all: Tailor your CV to the job you're applying for. That's tailor, not lie. Emphasise areas that will show you're a good fit for this job and downplay anything that's not going to help. If you're after a design job, focus on your creativity in and out of work. For a PA or reception role, highlight your time management and organisational skills. *Intentional error! For more advice on finding a job in the creative industry, drop us a line here.
