Not got time to watch a video? Then check out the main points below...
How did you get your first break in the industry? "When I graduated I just wanted to make some money and selling advertising space is a pretty fast way to do that. So, I get a job in subscriptions at Centaur, which I did for about 9 months. I didn't really enjoy it so I left and got a job with Excite after interviewing with them and Yahoo - the people at Excite sold it for me. The internet was just taking off so it was a great time to be involved - though in hind sight it looks like Yahoo had more legs! " What skills do you need to work in digital ad sales? "You need to be a great communicator and be able to get your ideas across in a succinct way. Relationships are a big deal in this industry, some client relationships can be good and others bad, so you need to be able to deal with both." What impresses you in interview situations? "I find grads to be very impressive in interview as they have little experience, so much of what they say and do is based on instinct and they're always very well turned out" What about job satisfaction? "I suppose the primary motivator for working in this sector is the money, so of course this is a motivator for me, however I like learning about new trends. For example I'm interested in mobile, I want to see how it pans out as a new platform, how brands will use it in advertising and how they will overcome it's challenges."
