Curiosity killed the cat, but it's a great way to get started on a successful career in an advertising job, says Paola Bersi, Account Manager at esteemed advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi.

What advice would you give to someone trying to get a foot in the door?
  
"I think you really need to be motivated. Advertising is an interesting world, but also very stressful. You need to really aware of what’s going on around you – politics, the economy, culture. In particular, the way people behave. Be curious about the world around you. Working in an advertising job you need to be able to multi-task and keep an open mind."

What excites you about working in advertising?  
"The result. Campaigns can be stressful and involve a lot of work and sacrifice, but at the end of it you get a result: an edit, a TVC, a print campaign – whatever it is will look wonderful to you."

Whats the best thing about working in account managment?  
"Definitely the mix between creativity and business. The aim is always to bring this creativity to whatever you do, within the business and in client relationships."

How do you keep up with industry trends?  
"The internet is definitely the main tool. Advertising magazines and blogs are also a good way to keep updated on trends every day. Obviously, we also do a lot of consumer research in order to understand our audience."

What are the challenges of working in advertising?  
"Really understanding our audience. Things change so quickly now that it’s difficult for advertising to keep up to date."
