Not got time to watch a video? Then check out the main points below... What adice would you give to candidates wanting to get a foot in the door? "It's all about presentation. Before you approach potential employers, make sure your design portfolio is polished and set up to the best of your ability. Make sure you've got it set up across multiple formats: presentable hard copy, digital leave behind (memory key or CD) and online (so you can access it anywhere with an internet connection). If you're just starting out, you'll still have a lot to learn, so be patient and listen to the advice you're given." How can a candidate get noticed? "It all about the people you know, if you've not got the experience you need to start cold calling potential employers can lead to a lot of dead ends. It's all about who you know, so get to know people! Do things for free, showcase your work online and link out on social networks, join industry groups online - do everything you can to raise your profile." What should a candidate we learning/skilling up on? "When you're starting out, it's a good idea to pick an area to specialise in and build your design skills around that. These days there's so much going on and so much you can learn about, especially on digtial platforms so try to learn moren on about one area, but also be aware of what else is going on in design, you don't want to be left behind!."
